This article explains Insights; what they are, why they're important and how to use them.
Insights are key pieces of information that Pulse thinks you would like to know about or act on.
Insights have their own dedicated section in Pulse. You'll find them on the left hand side of the dashboard, as list under the title 'Insights'.
Insights are grouped into 4 key sections:
Each insight type has a summary of the cost of the insight, a graph showing the trend of the insight over time, and a table of products that Pulse has identified where there is potential to take action.
The figure associated with each insight represents the amount of extra revenue that Pulse has calculated could be gained by taking the suggested actions on the products highlighted in each insight. Essentially, this is money that is being lost through under-priced, overstocked, high waste or slow moving products. These are losses that Pulse has identified as being avoidable, and could be recuperated by taking the suggested actions.
Opportunity of Insights
The total opportunity that Pulse has calculated across all insights is highlighted, as well as a breakdown of the opportunity per insight type. Important note here is that it is either direct cost (e.g of waste), or else the opportunity (e.g, margin to be gained by following price increase suggestions) that the store can realise by taking action.
You can click on the Insight you want to explore to filter the information on the chart and to update the table of products.
Trend Graph
This chart shows the trend of the insight over the previous year. This allows a user to understand if they are trending in the right direction, and that appropriate actions are being taken on the insights to reduce costs and increase profitability.
If you take an action on a highlighted product, the product will no longer appear in the insight. As a result, the cost of the insight will reduce, and the trend will go in the right direction. If you do not take action on a highlighted product, it will continue to appear in the insight unless you choose to exclude it (we'll go into more detail about this further down in the article).
Table of products
Each product relevant to the insight will appear in the table of products that appears when you click each insight. You can click the row to expand it for more information on the products Pulse has flagged as warranting action.
You can click the ‘More’ button if they would like see even more detailed product information, as well as recommended actions. You can indicate to Pulse you are going to take an action by selecting an action from the list that appears when you press the More button. This allows Pulse to track what is working in store.
When you click "More", the information you see will depend on the type of insight.
For example, the Waste insight will show history regarding waste/sales/overrides, as well as recommended order/bake quantities,
However, the Stock insight will show information relevant to stock insights.
Action List
When you are going through your insights in Pulse, you can choose to add the products you plan to action to a “to do” list. This list can be exported to Excel, ensuring you don’t lose sight of the products you intend to address!
Product exclusions
As we mentioned above, sometimes Pulse makes suggestions on products in your store that you may not want to action. For example, there may be some products in your store that you cannot change the price on, like cigarettes or newspapers, and these may come up in the Price Increase Suggestions insights. You can tell Pulse to exclude a specific product. By doing this, you can ensure that the product will no longer appear in your daily insights.
You can exclude a product from the insight by clicking the below icon:
If you exclude a product accidentally, or decide you want to re-include a product or category to an insight later on, you can view and update excluded products in the settings section.
